During the last several weeks of Term 3, we have started 'Genius Hour', within that `Passion Projects`. A past blog post was published several weeks past, giving an overview of the process. He has completed the project that we were working on--life-sized sculptures. The idea of the character that we made into the sculpture came from a Japanese Theater-- Kabuki--the character 'The Beast King' was one of great designs, and so, of great interest. The costume included an extravagant display and great visuals. The project was finished in the duration of the first week of the current term. A slide was also created to detail our experience and intricacies of the project. It was an immense experience and effort for the team, though it was exuberance.

Hi Axle
ReplyDeleteI'm the Secondary Specialist for Manaiakalani. Your teacher shared your blog with me because of the wonderful work you have been doing with your passion project.
I really like how you drew on ideas from The Beast King and Japanese culture. I'm not that familiar with Japanese theatre but it reading through your slide, I'm so intrigued; I'll have to go and find out more.
It looks like it was a lot of fun to put this together.
Years ago I did quite a bit of paper mache and sculpture. There always seemed to be a point when my sculpture got to big and then I realised I needed to put in more supports. Did you have that problem?
If you did a project like this again Axel, I'm interested to know what would you do differently?
Hello Kerry,
DeleteThank you for your comment. Indeed we had that problem through making the sculpture, we needed more support than we thought and we looked at a different solution. It was a bit challenging, we had a several ideas of which did not work initially; it wasn't until I saw how wires could work did we figure out a solution.
If I were to do this project again I would probably look at a different method in creating the base for the structure. Although it looked good--the structure-- I think it could've been better in terms of shape and colour.
Again thank you for you comment Kerry, I hope you visit again!
