Quality Comment

Making a quality blog post is essential, in addition to that making a quality comment that could match it is even more important. Comments are important in helping bloggers improve the quality of blog posts that they are doing. It could help them determine the words that they use, the structure of how they "layer" the post in sections and how they make the post in general. In this slide, it will be giving you the basics of making a comment and how to make it of good quality.

Multiples and Factors

In our math sessions, we have now been reviewing topics that we have learned before and in by doing so we will be able to remember how they work and what they mean.  Two of these topics are multiples and factors, two relatively simple topics to understand, by all means not very hard to learn. In this slide, I have put an explanation for both multiples and factors. Also questions, which gives an example of how they might be used in math.

A Brief History Of The: "Treaty of Waitangi"

The 6th of February 2019 marks the 45th year since Waitangi Day has been celebrated as a public holiday, we know it's about the "Treaty of Waitangi"; however do you know it's full history, the culture and the liberty that we gained during those times?

This week in our reading we started to learn more about what Waitangi Day and it's importance to New Zealand. We read some articles about it and the different parts and details that happened around a century ago. Our class then had to work on some questions and tasks all about what we've read; most of them including a summary and some multiple answers questions. It was an enlightening moment; now I am proud to say that I at least know a small brief history of New Zealand.

Here is my brief understanding of what happened during those times...

Understanding Probability

This term, which is the final term of this year; we started focusing on probability. A part of maths where there are no exact answers and where it could go either way. But basically, it is where you look and see the changes of an event occurring.  Learning probability was amazing, understanding it wasn't really hard; and once you get the hang of it is reasonably easy to do. Here is a DLO that I did to help you understand more of what probability is really about.

Croquembouche Advertisement video!

As said before we are currently getting ready for Market Day. Here is another advertisement that we made. The video is about how yummy and delicious our product is and why you should buy it. Unfortunately, there was a malfunction in technology in which we couldn't put a voice over in it. That is why we decided to just put the text that we were supposed to say in the powtoon video, which was a bit of an inconvenience, but all in all, I think we have made a quality powtoon video, here it is, enjoy!

Fixed vs Growth Mindset

This term in Philosophy we started to learn more about what fixed and growth mindset looks like. Last week Mr.Scott proceeded a secret experiment that he told us after. It was about the reaction and the results that students got when they were told certain things. Four groups were arranged to answer riddles, with one half being to that they were really smart and they could do everything, with the other half being including me told that they could do it because they worked hard. As expected the ones who were told that they could do it because they worked hard had a significantly higher score and that they did not even try to cheat while the other half, not only did they get lower points but also they tried to cheat. That goes to show, words could change everything.

(From what I've found out about my self, I think I have a growth mindset for most of what I do, but there are sometimes that I will have a fixed mindset, for example when I try to enhance my ability to draw there are times where I don't succeed and would think about giving up. But, I do get over it and slowly but surely I started improving.)

Simple Geometry

In my maths with Mrs Hastie, we recapped what we learnt about simple geometry. We then needed to explain the different parts and create a  slideshow after it. This slideshow will have some information about geometry; like the "Line of symmetry", "Translation" and etc.  I hope that this will help you to understand geometry easier; have a nice day bye!

Elephant's Toothpaste!

This Friday in science we learnt how to make Elephant's Toothpaste! Basically, it is a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, dishwashing liquid and yeast with warm water. The reaction is caused by a rapid decomposition of hydrogen peroxide making use of yeast as the catalyst. It was a really interesting experiment, with some different outcome per each group. Mainly because of the thickness of the yeats and warm water mixture, with some being too thick and some with just the right amount of water. The mixture didn't have a really bad smell, however, from what I smelled, it's best to avoid sniffing it. It was really a fun experiment and I hope we get to do more! Anyway if you want to do it at home here is the recipe and the method, but before you can do it adult supervision is required, have fun!
Elephant’s Toothpaste
Resources:
  • Safety glasses
  • A cylinder
  • Rubber gloves
  • A tote tray to protect the bench from damage
  • 120ml Hydrogen Peroxide 6%
  • Dishwash liquid
  • Dry yeast
  • Food colouring
  • Funnel
  • Tablespoon
  • Beaker
Procedure:
  1. Put on your gloves and goggles.
  2. Put a tote tray on the bench and put your cylinder in the tote tray, with the funnel in the top.
  3. Ask the teacher to pour the hydrogen peroxide into your cylinder (via the funnel).
  4. Add 10 drops of food colouring to the cylinder (via the funnel).
  5. Add a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid to the bottle (via the funnel).
  6. Swirl your cylinder around to mix everything together.
  7. In a beaker, mix a tablespoon of dry yeast with 3 tablespoons of warm water and stir for 30 seconds.
  8. Pour the yeast mixture into the cylinder (via the funnel).
  9. Stand back and watch the chemical reaction!
  10. Pour the mixture down the drain afterwards and wash out the cylinder.
Scientific Explanation (How it works):
The yeast and water mixture acts as a catalyst - something that speeds up a chemical reaction in another substance while remaining unchanged itself. When you add this to the cylinder it makes the hydrogen peroxide break down into oxygen and water. The dishwashing liquid traps the oxygen in bubbles to create the foam. Just a small amount of hydrogen peroxide will create a lot of oxygen, so you get loads of bubbles - making your ‘toothpaste’ almost explode out of the cylinder.
Extra for experts:

  1. Is your cylinder warm after the experiment? Why? The cylinder is indeed warm, the cause of this is because when these certain chemicals are mixed together, it releases energy in this experiment it's in a form of heat.

I need you!!!

Here is our challenge :

"Over the next three weeks track how many comments you receive and who they are from. Each community group is worth a different amount of points. The team (Cybersmart Buddies) who have the most points by the end of the term will receive a reward. You can bribe, market and sell your blog in whatever way you see fit! Who is your target audience going to be??? "

I hope that you would be able to help me with this over the next few weeks, I would be extremely thankful if you could. Thank you very much and have a nice day.

The Benedict's Test

Testing for Simple Sugars  (Benedict's Test)

Aim

I want to find out how to test for simple sugars.

Simple sugars are carbohydrates that are quickly absorbed by the body to produce energy. They are also classified as “simple” because they contain only one or two units of sugar or saccharides. Also referred to as simple carbohydrates, these sugars are found naturally in a variety of foods that we consume daily.

Equipment
  • Safety glasses
  • Bunsen burner
  • Test tubes
  • Test tube tongs
  • Benedict's Solution
  • Glucose powder (dextrose)
Method

  1. Place about 2mL of the dextrose into a test tube and then add 5 drops of Benedict's solution and 5ml of water
  2. Gently heat the test tube over a blue flame.  DO NOT BOIL!

Results

A positive test for simple sugar results in Benedict's Solution changing from a blue colour to a green colour to an orange colour.

Conclusion
In conclusion, we learnt that by mixing certain chemicals, which are simple sugars like glucose powder(Dextrose), Benedict's solution and water then heated; it would create a chemical reaction which would turn the normally blue solution into an orange like liquid.

Extra for experts

Two different types of sugar exist: simple and complex. Complex sugar takes longer for your body to break down and is healthier for your body. This type is found in natural carbohydrates such as whole grains and fruit. On the other hand, simple sugar is broken down by your body quickly and causes energy ups and downs. This type of sugar includes refined and processed sugar found in table sugar and added to many sweets. Consuming an excess of simple sugar comes with numerous h.ealth problems

  • Give two examples of simple sugars and complex sugars in your daily food: Table sugar and fruit juice for simple sugars; peas and beans for complex sugars.

  • At what times of the day may you need simple sugars? It is said that it would be best to eat sugars/carbs in the morning/during playing sports or during exercise. So that during the rest of the day it would burn off and would also burn fat as well.

  • Do you think that it would be wise to eat simple sugars before bed? Why/why not? The decision of eating food with sugar isn't the best idea, one of which reasons is,
it would affect your sleep and would also affect your blood sugar, which could risk you having
diabetic issues later on in life.

What respecting belief and religion looks like at HHS?

This term, in Philosophy we've been looking at respect and it's value to the world and to HHS. Vann and I focused on Respect towards beliefs and religions.
It is important to respect each other, it keeps and binds the world together. Respect is the base and the most important within the values of HHS. Without respect, it would be impossible to love each other, and without it, fight and malevolence will take over. That's why we need to treasure and use that value always to keep the world intact and be kept to the way it is now.

The kid who got knocked down by a potato.

This term in Cyber smart we started to learn about smart footprints and keeping your private/personal info unknown in the online world. We also talked about how we could prevent or avoid being hacked. Also, if you or your parents have shared private/personal info we talked about what we should do. Here is the "Pick a path" story that we made that might help you to decide on what to do.

It was a bit challenging when we started to think about what would happen next and also how to end it. But still, we made through. Thank you for viewing my blog, what do you think I've missed in the story? Please put your comments down below. Have a nice day, bye!

Taking Care of your Taha Hinengaro.

This term, in Kete, we started to learn about puberty and the 4 different dimensions of Houra. This week we focused on our mental health/Taha Hinengaro, we learn about the different parts/stages of our mental health. Here is the presentation that we made, hope you like it, bye!

What is the Filipino culture?

This term, we had a topic in Kete about Turangawaewae(a place where I stand) and also about different cultures that people have in class. Some presented things about their culture like the Thai buddies. For those of you that doesn't know, we had Thailand students come here and experience how kiwis learn in schools. While they were in this school they took the time to present things that they do in their culture, they showed us, Thai boxing and other stuff. Then near the end of the term, in week 9 Ms.Allan had an idea about if we could share some of our culture too,  which is Filipino.  So, in the middle of week 10 we started to create our scripts and prepare for the things that we were going to do. Mrs. Marijo, our Filipino/ESOL teacher help us to make this possible without her help, things wouldn't probably turn out as good as it did, so thanks for that Mrs.Marijo!

Any way, we did a presentation  while talking over it, we as in my co-members did the national dance of the Philippines which was originally "Tinkling" but was recently changed to "Carinosa". Also we showed the rest of the class games that we play in the Philippines. We had lots doing it, but at the same time we were really nervous too, even though I already presented in front of lots of people before. Here are some of the pictures from  yesterday, April 12.

Quantum Theory....

Lately a great scientist died, named Stephen Hawking; he has been involved in the theories and discoveries about black holes and alter universes. Also he was involved in the possibility of colonising other planets. Then because we're doing some street arts I thought about honouring his death and to popularise one of the quotes that he said, and that I live by. We started to to do the street art about 3 weeks ago we had to choose our most favourite streets rt from Christchurch and had to copy it. After that, we had a choice of what we should do, and it also needs to have a message this is what I did for the last 2 weeks.  Here it is, hope you like it as much as I liked drawing it, bye!

The History of the NZ's Anthem...

Last week we started a topic in our KETE, famous things about New Zealand. There were 3 groups, which had different kinds of task for us to do. One of them was about the NZ flag, NZ national anthem, and the Crest. I was put into the NZ national anthem group and in there we had to research a lot of stuff about it. Also we were put into smaller groups, there was Ouu Ouu, Ranit, Keghan and I. I learnt a lot about the country and it was really fun. I learnt facts that I never knew before. So I wanted to share what I learnt. Here it is.

How can you make a successful vlog?

Hello guys, it's a me Axle. This term in cyber smart, we learn how to make a successful vlos. We got into groups of 2 and as usual you probably know that my partner was Vann. The reason is because, we don't really argue and we always come up with "amazing"(at least we think that) work. We had to make a DLO on how to make a successful vlog/video. Anyway, we decided that it was best to make it, short but informational as well. We talked about the visual, sound and entertainment(which I think is the most important thing that needs to be in a video). Even though it was short we still tried made it quite funny, to entertain. But yeah, anyway I think that we made a successful video, it was really fun when we decided to shoot it, and there were a lot of "slapping", I just want to say and let you know that, there were not "animals" hurt in this video (JK).

Here is the video hope you'll enjoy it, bye!

Sprinting like a Cheetah!

Last week at Friday, March 2, we had our Athletics day.  In our Athletics day we of course did sport stuff like shot put, sprints and some others. But anyway before we had our Athletics day, we had to choose five different categorise of sport that we wanted to do. The options were, high jump, long jump, 100 m sprint, 60 m, shot put and discuss. I chose all of them except for high jump (I'm terrible at it). Also when it was at the Athletics day, we had to wear a clothing that match with our house (houses are like a group, my one is green, and it is Shelford). Anyway back to the Athletics day, we did the different sports, I won first place some of them; like the sprints and the discuss too; but with some of the other sport I won too, but I was only second place. Any that's it for my post I hope that you liked it, have a nice day bye!

Here some of the pictures of the sport.

Sailing to the "Seven seas" (with Captain Jack sparrow/Click bait)

Hello! It's me Axle and now I'm in high school, yay! Last week the whole yr.7s went sailing, (like we did last year, in the same place). We rode a bus to get there but it was too far away, (I think, because I didn't really pay attention, because I was talking with my friends).

But anyway when we got there we we're put in groups, groups 1, 2 & 3, (I was in group 3). After that, we had to form another group that only consist of 3 people. Then after we have form a group the instructors taught us things about sailing and blah bab blah/etch. Anyway after all that happened, we went sailing! But it wasn't that fun at first, because there was almost no wind; the boat we're almost not moving. Suddenly when we had to eat the wind got stronger, and then we went sailing again and it was amazing. While that was happening people went going on and on about swimming.

Long story, short we went swimming, then sailing and then we went home. I loved it especially when the wind got stronger, and I also loved it when we went swimming. But anyway, I hope that you liked this post and then again have a nice day, bye!

What are Reflections?

This week we started to know about reflection. In this video I talked about how does a reflection work and basically I talked about, what a reflection is. Anyway I hoped that you've enjoyed this video, i know I did, I enjoyed making it while learning what reflections are. As always have a nice day, bye!
